Waiting Expectantly

his passage comes from an epistle written by Jude, a half-brother of Jesus (son of Mary and Joseph). Though Jesus’ siblings did not believe Him when He was still alive and was teaching on the Kingdom of God, the Bible explicitly records that two of them (Jude and James) became believers after He was resurrected and ascended to Heaven. James wrote another epistle and he became one of the pillars of the church in Jerusalem described in the Book of Acts. Jude’s short epistle is very deep into the spiritual realms and I do not comprehend many parts of it. In this passage he exhorts the believer on four things – to build themselves up on their faith, to keep praying in the Holy Spirit, to keep loving God and to expectantly wait for the fulfillment of God’s promised mercy resulting in eternal life. His epistle is the last one just before the end times Book of Revelation and was meant to encourage the believer to remain faithful to God until Jesus comes back. The secret to building faith is by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17); praying in the Holy Spirit is interpreted by many as praying in tongues and there is much debate about this; to keep loving God is to keep obeying Him and communing with Him in prayer and His word, the Bible; and waiting in expectancy means not to become lukewarm, distracted or lose hope but to keep focused and look forward to being united with Him. What a timely word for today!
