The Greatest Commandment

Reading this verse already makes me feel uncomfortable. Pursuing peace with everyone in my life, past and present, requires my full engagement – body, spirit and soul. Pursuing sanctification so I may see God requires about the same level of engagement, actually more. But pursuing both makes me fulfill the greatest commandment according to Jesus: Love God above all and love your neighbor. ( Matthew 32:34-40 and Mark 12:28-30) That actually sums up the whole Bible. If I pursue holiness (sanctification) I will be able to see(!) God and know and love Him more. If I pursue peace with my fellow men I will understand them and see them more clearly for what they are and actually love them. This is how God wants me to live. It is a struggle for me but if I stay believing in Him and letting Him work in my heart He says I can do this! He has given me the Helper – His Holy Spirit – so I can do the impossible. Whoa!!
