Wisdom in the Bible

The Book of Proverbs is like a textbook on how to live life so that we attain success, prosperity and a balanced and stable life, resulting in good health, a long earthly life and eternal life. It is based on the premise that the fear of God is the way to live life wisely. That principle cannot be readily understood. Sometimes God’s laws don’t make sense nor are they “practical for daily living.” But this verse says to trust God’s commands anyway. We’re supposed to refrain from thinking we’re being wise by interpreting God’s laws in a “practical” manner or in our own understanding. Sometimes, we just have to trust God and obey Him though we do not understand. Most often, the understanding comes after we obey it because the results of obeying it will make it plain to us. It is my experience that after I have obeyed God’s commands that I understand, then I start understanding the ones I don’t understand.
