Too Many Friends

We can’t really be friends with everyone because that would most likely mean we bend to the wishes of everyone. I believe that’s why this proverb says having too many friends would bring us to ruin. I think there’s a limit to the number of people you can invest your quality time and attention on, meaningful enough to call them “friends.” If we want to be popular, like here in Facebook, we can add as many people we know, or even don’t know, and call them “friends.” But then, only friends who love and care for us as a sibling would – “sticks like a brother” – would really be our close or true friends. Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” That’s the kind of friend who will help us when we are in trouble. He or she would love and help as a sibling would. Unlike “fair weather” friends! But the best friend to have above all is Jesus! He is truly the one who can help us when nobody else can! Oh, and He loves so much more at all times, too! The Bible also says Jesus is indeed Brother and Friend to His true followers!
