Beauty Queen

There was a beauty contest in search for a queen. No, not just a beauty queen but to be queen of an empire. Esther was chosen. Meanwhile, a tyrant nobleman rose among the ranks of the empire and underhandedly influenced the emperor king to pass a law that would annihilate an ethnic group which does not believe in bowing to him, a mere human being. They bowed only to God. Nobody knew that Queen Esther belonged to that ethnic group except her cousin who raised her up, for she was an orphan. Her cousin asked her to speak for her people to the emperor king. The king was so powerful and held in high esteem that no one – not even his own queen – was allowed to approach him at his throne, unless that person was summoned by him. If anyone dared to do so the emperor king could condemn him / her to death. Queen Esther put her life on the line and entered his throne room, without a summon, to speak for her people. If you were faced with this situation would you do the same thing? Her cousin who persuaded her was the one who put this challenge before her. He was basically saying, “If you don’t do this assignment, God will use another means to save our people but you and your relatives will die and nobody would even remember that you became queen! And maybe you actually became queen just for this reason – to save your people.” The book of Esther – a timeless true story of “beauty with a purpose” and “empowered womanhood.” Read it in the Bible!
